Hey, for those who don't know me, my name is Natalie and I am an illustrator. I have been illustrating for over 10 years now... time flies when you're having fun!
I have been drawing and sketching and story writing since the age of 5, but I learnt how to digitally illustrate in college at the age of 17 and I fell in love with it instantly. I'm so happy that not only is this a hobby now, but it's my life.
After posting some of my illustration work on Instagram, in March 2017 I was approached by @afrosinsanjuan to collaborate. Afros in San Juan is a page that photographs afro Caribbeans, documenting hair as seen on the streets of Puerto Rico. The photos I saw were stunning and so inspirational. Their page was a celebration of hair textures and styles, a celebration of skin and beauty and nature. This project was a dream so of course I said yes!
I was commissioned to create a number of San Juan illustrations for them based on the photographs they had selected.

These illustrations were to be printed out as cards to use at the North Bay Womxn of colour Conference in March 2017. The illustrations were used in the booth and the remaining ones were also sold on their website.
It was such a privilege to be chosen for such a beautiful project.
